Hi,

I'm a bit confused here (nothing new there). The pipe which collects air for the air intake box just seems to end inside the engine bay :

Surely it shouldn't end here as the air intake is getting warm air from the engine bay!?!!??

I intend to keep the stock air filter layout which has a decent flat panel filter in there at the moment..... but I clearly need to reroute or at least extend this pipe.

Where is the pipe SUPPOSED to end? - surely not in the engine bay like mine currently is!?

Also - I've seen some photos which show the end of the air intake coming from the grille just next to the fog lights in the front bottom spoiler. How is this possible? When I think of routing mine that way - I find the front crossmember is in the way!!!!!

Bob,
Had a look on mine and the intake piping goes down through a bracket and butts up to the slam panel which has a hole in it. I guess it's drawing cooler air from behind the bumper there. It looks like the bracket on yours has come away? If you can route yours to the same spot ( just below the light you'll see the hole i'm on about) it should be better

yeh i think thats right , it goes to the side of the radiator where the fresh air must deflect off the rad and go towards the air pipe

Hi,

Seems to ring me a bell this photo of Bob!.

My 33 had the bracket no. 14 secured on the headlight bolt and the sleeve (no. 12) picking up more air from the engine than from the outside.

This setup was supposed to be right from the factory Embarassed

since the car had never been on the hands of unskilled garages.

The missing parts were 16, 17, 18 which actually connect to the sleeve. Part 17 connects to the sleeve and the other side reaches the front valance which is shaped exactly as seen in the picture. Part 16 comes to fit from the outer side of the valance and part 18 is just foam like the ones used in packaging; it is there to stop any vibrations and unwanted rattles.

When you install items 16,17,18 you will probably not need bracket 14 since parts 16 and 17 hook together.

Hi,

And some pics from the air intake.

A note here: I have wrapped the intake sleeve with black fabric tape which protects the original sleeve as it quickly wears out due to heat and water.

Just a tought

Watching the Eper, you can notice that the air intake was modified during the car life...
Also it was never fitted to 16v. The others got this "special intake", but not the 16v..

If your car is older than 3/1992, it is normal that it has the "normal" intake... But if it is newer, it can be dued to several things.
-while it was being made on the factory, the assembly operator had one older intake on the hand, and thought : "what the hell" - and fitted the older type

-your car, had a crash, and while it was being repaired, the whorkshop wrongly placed a order for the wrong type of part Confused

Hi,

I agree with Bellamachinna. My car has also other strange things... It has PAS with the non-adjustable steering bars. So the possiblity of the assemby line worker having or not having the correct type of part is strong.

We can also conclude that at that time the car was assembled the factory was short of specific parts ... so put in the car whatever is handy to get rid of it!

Regarding collision repairs you are right. I have seen many examples of poor repaired cars where you can very easily go nuts about it... Luckily my car has never ever had any crash and everything's stock!

I'm pretty sure that if we compare 33s with the same age and close chassis numbers , we will find many differences Rolling Eyes

i never knew the end nozzles existed i have had 3 16vs and an ie not one has had them on. do you know where to get them from?

Anyone else???? How many valves guys? According to my ePer there are only ones for 8 valve? Therefore, I'm not sure if it's the same for the 16v or if it uses them at all.

Wanna risk it?

I'd assume you can fit it to a 16 valver.

I'll take the chance - I had all this stuff before and binned it when I put on a cone filter. I think I'd like to try to resurrect this bit of piping so I can get a bit more cold air in as at the moment the its coming from the engine bay which might be a bit warm.

I'm sure these bits won't be too pricey. I can pay with Paypal too Bobber if that helps?

Hi,

That intake duct thing looks very interesting. I fear that the 16v head may clash with it, hence the 16valvers only having a metal hoop.

If anyone fits one to a 16v, let us know, I'd be on the team! Laughing

I made a heath robinson contraption a while back that ended up with an intake behind the slotty square next to the O/S foglight. I took it all out pre MOT a few years back for fear of ridicule! Embarassed

that might have worked well as long as you didnt go through any puddles then you might have big problems with bent conrods.
