Sadly as I am emigrating to the other side of the world and haven't succeeded in persuading my wife that taking the P4 with is a practical / viable proposition to keep me out of trouble when I get there, it has to go!

It's a 92 K Reg Series 3 16V P4 in metallic grey (my favourite colour) . It has an MoT until Nov '07, so has had all the necessary work done. It has had a replacement engine - belts broke on one bank on my first drive in it, and it took a good long time to fin d a good replacement with a verified 82K on it. It has also had a replacement gearbox, which is about as smooth as any 33 I've driven i.e. a slight notchiness going into second, but basically quite easy.

Overall the bodywork is very good for its age, with no signs of external rust at all, though there was some welding done to the floor pans for the MoT in November. The car has a good grey fabric Recaro interior apart from a small rip on the drivers seat base cushion on the door side, but no stereo. Standard Q4 Speedline alloys in good condition.

Now the bad part; I have hardly driven the car since I bought it a couple of years ago, as it was a non-runner with a locked gearbox when I got it. Having procured the replacement gearbox (£250), it went like the pocket rocket that it should be - until the belt broke shortly after getting it back on the road. Finding another good engine (£300) and getting it fitted took some time, but now the alternator appears to have packed up, possibly also affecting the airflow meter and / or ECU, and / or electro-magnetic coupling. As a result, the battery isn't taking any charge, and it won't start without a jump, it struggles to keep running with the lights on, it idles at about 3000 rpm, and the 4X4 light comes on after driving for a short while! I have consulted an expert who thinks that all of these are lprobably inked to the alternator problem, and all are individually cheap to fix with used parts.

Sadly my time to deal with these relatively minor issues and to get her running properly again, has run out, so I have to bow to the inevitable and let her go. I have had an offer of £400 - which as you can see comes nowhere near recouping what I've spent - so the best cash offer above this level to collect before next Monday, 27th January gets her. Advertised elsewhere so may be gone before, but make me a good offer and she's yours now! She is sold as seen, and will need to be trailed away, as there is no tax on the car apart from the unlikely reliability due to the other problems. I'm based near Coventry and will be happy to answer any questions on 07971-512350. Cheers.

Off to sunny South Africa, where I can ride my Ducati and drive my car all year round on great - realtively empty - roads in lovely scenery! Goodbye overcrowded, slated British winter roads - can't wait!

JC... I hope I'm wrong - but I'm pretty sure these days you need a body guard to live in SA.

or you'll have NO ducati, NO car .... and possibly no life.

... maybe around Jo'burg, but mainly it's not far different from here - in fact with the way the violent crime is going up here, Cape Town and the Western Cape are probably safer. Anyway, haven't you noticed how many of the big car and bike manufacturers these days fly all the journos out there for their major launches. It's really spectacular and a lot more fun than here, hence the decision to go! You should try it ... oh and there's also a plentyiful supply of old rust-free Alfas!

Thanks for that, look forward to a flood of interest. Will be sad to see her go. I would like to have had her running properly and had some decenet use out of it. It was great for the brief period I had it running - very simialr to my well sorted 33 race car!I imagine it would be a lot of fun as a road car. It's the first time I've had any problems with an Italian - either Alfa or Fiat, but I suppose with 117,000 on the clock and coming from the pre-quality improvement era, it's not so surprising. Hasn't dimmed my love for Alfas. Look forward to seeing you for sime sunny weather driving in SA!

BTW, I'm pleased to say I've already had two interested calls in two days from the sote, which is probably a lot better hit rate than Auto Trader or WHY. Cheers JC.
