getting as much out of the 16v cat cammed engine but still keep it legal emission wise and to save the environment. Been told to put on a variable fuel pump and up the bar to 3.3, normally at 2.9, the lambda sensor will notice unburnt fuel and retard the duration, so it gets the same fuel in less time, however when you floor it, it goes a lot quicker as the pressure it up and more fuel goes in. Also RE ECU chips, can they be tied in with the fuel pump so the chip can tell the fuel pump to pump more when required? How do the chips work? Do they just dump loads of fuel only when flooring it? Some are remapped to give more bhp throughout the rev range, but does this affect emission? Will it pass mot.

i have seen those fuel pumps that give extra pressure but do you need a regulator? and as far as i know the chips are fine with emissions

yup Laughing dun the 5 min AFM mod already, got a K&N cone filter. I just been speaking to EMC (wayne) who advised on getting a automatic fuel regulator thingy, cant remember the name. It looks like an old style fuel pump off the 8v and it upps the bar when you floor it and levels out when idleing, no need to change fuel pump or regulator. Its about £80, the same as a variable fuel pump and said there used in race cars.
I have a fasttech chip, which i took out for the mot and not got round to re fitting it, I will do so over the weekend. When next mot comes i might get a sports cat.

There`s a guy in the AlfaNord (one of the Portuguese Alfa Clubs), that fitted a FSE in his 33 (amongst another mods), but he told me that he replaced the original fuel pressure regulator by the FSE.
Here is the link...
