Hi,
First off, I've always had this problem with the car. Sometimes when I start it up it has a misfire and the engine is a tad farty and then other times it starts and runs fine.
On the times it has the misfire, a short drive of 1/2 a mile will be enough for it to clear and run smooth, so my question is what do you guys think?
I think myself that the ECU could be at fault because it's intermittant but any ideas will be appreciated.
Not a huge problem as 1, it's been like it 4 years and 2, it always clears itself but now i'm going to Spa (may have over done the smilies) i'd like to get to the bottom of it.
Cheers, Lee |

On some days mine can stammer a bit if it's driven straight off the drive from turning the key. If i wait for the kinda 'choke' to die down, you know where it drops from about 1200rpm back to 800rpm, it's usually as good as gold.
Several people in Bosch cnetres etc have told me that the Morronic ecu is super reliable, and it's usually sensors that cause problems. I once got my ECU bech tested for about £25, and it was fine.
You can try resetting the ecu by just disconnecting the battery, and if this temporarily cures it, it may be a sender/AFM prob. When i had a dicky lambda a few years back, resetting the ECU would make things good for a run or 2, as if the ECU needed to find out about the problem before getting upset.
Cheers,

i used to get this and looked in my engine bay in the dark and could see arching from the ht leads and coil. I have replaced all my ht leads but i am getting it again, this time its from my coil, where the coil to distributor ht lead goes on, you can see arching coming from the plastic/insulating mold of the coil. Happens when cold or wet and when it warms up a little seems to be ok. _________________ x2 33 16v
