Hi

My P4 has developed a water leak. On the top of the engine on the right (sitting in the car).

Trouble is that it is going to be a pain to find what is leaking with the engine not running, and with the engine in a running state I cannot see enough!

Any suggestions? My best guess at the moment is the longer of the 2 main pipes from the inlets to the thermostat. But could equally be a core plug!

All the best

Keith

Hi,

Could be the throttle body gasket/spacer sandwich as mentioned elsewhere in the last day or two.

You could pressure test the system with the engine cold and not running. You would need a pump that screws onto the expansion cap hole, possibly sykes pickavant or draper do one.

Hope that helps a little,

John

Removing the bonnet gives better access and only takes a fews minutes to remove and replace for two people.

Hi

Water leak appears to come from more towards the middle. Put it this way, if I use an airline to blow it away from just in front of the starter motor it seems to come from between the stat of the middle of the block.

And it rained today too much for me to want to do more than the min outside.

All the best

Keith

Any chance that the engine block taps have rusted and coolant escaped from there?

Regards,

Hi

Well, found the problem. It is the small short pipe from the stat to the water pump. Has ballooned as it reaches the stat and has a small hole in it.

All the best

Keith
