Hi,
Next Wednesday is the day that I will have an A/C installed from a crashed 33.
However I have some questions that I need some help.
1. About the evaporator unit: Is it installed as an add-on to the existing heater unit (the black box inside the engine compartment between the battery and the servobrake) or a complete new "casing" which includes everything (fan , radiator , evaporator) will be installed?
2. As I can understand the evaporator must be located inside the passenger compartment, am i right?
3.The alfa parts CD indicates an additional cable harness along with some relays - is this harness preinstalled or will the nechanic add it?
4. Where should the drier filter be installed?
5.A sending unit and an electronic control unit are mentioned on the parts CD; what are these and where are they installed?
Somehow I am curious how this mess will be converted in a well operating A/C system...
Anyway.
If anyone has photos from the engine compartment with A/C (s3 car) I would be very thankful to that person in order for me to clarify some things...
Thanx a lot. _________________ Thanassis Gritsopoulos

Hi
I'm thinking of doing same thing to my 16v. There are some difference between 16v and 8v, A/C, but.
AFAIK :
1. whole new casing, fan... is needed. (from crashed 33)
2. it was on 16v
3. again you don't have it so you need it (from crashed 33). (could be even whole wiring loom)
4. don't know (in engine bay, near to compresor)
5. don't know
There is also part on engine that you need, it is coolant spliter above coolant water pump, normal cars without A/c have only one pipe, those with A/C have 2.
A/C system is very very delicate one, and there are many 33s out there that tave complite system but don't use it due to leak somewhere in system, usualy one of vapor radators behind front bumper, or some broken little pipe. Problem with it is that those things cannot be welded because of high preasuress/ temp diff that a/c works on, so you need new thing which is usually very expencive.
all the best
