I am considering a poly bush kit for the sportwagon, anyone already got them fitted? what you think? i dont want to make the ride too hard considering i already got the 16" speedlines on with 205/45 tyres. it's been suggested to me that new standard shox, uprated springs & at least poly bushes to the front is the way to go.

I'm going to go through my Mk1 Gold Cloverleaf front and rear. I've been advised to go for poly at the front, but rebush with standard OEM rubber at the rear.
I can understand this as the 33/sud rear box/beam was designed to have lateral movement as part of its design. Being an early car, I want my 33 to feel like a sud as near as possible. Springs and damping will be Green Cloverleaf height and rate.
On other Alfas I've owned, 155 etc, I was warned that polybushing the rear can upset the car when at straight line speed. I put Koni Sport at the rear of my 155 and regetted it, it was too stiff.
Advise please.

Hi Alex, I'm running Koni shocks, H&R Springs and Polybushes all round apart from the anti-roll bar where I've got new OEM bushes. I think the ride comfort versus handling this package gives is quite good. Although I don't push mine really hard and I'm running mine on 15" wheels (as opposed to your 16s). There's someone with a silver S3 16v that also has the same setup and has run that setup on 16" wheels i think. I think he goes under the name of BigAl33. He might be able to shed some light.
For me the bushes give the 33 a tighter feel. The steering reaction is a little better also and of course there's less body roll. Just note that the initial stiffness of the car on first installation will slacken slightly as the bushes settle and become more compliant. It's a matter of taste (and maybe the state of your car as some people claim they can lead to a cracked chassis - I don't know). You can have a drive of my car and see what you think when we see next. Cheers! |

Phew! Have you seen the way he drives!!  Only joking. Thanks for replying. By the way, you replaced ALL your bushes with poly bushes right? |

Yup, i had to use superflex for the antiroll bar as powerflex dont do them. I was advised to replace all but 2 bushes at the front but did them all, i cant remember which ones not to replace.

Mine goes loverly now i got the correct tyre pressures, no understeer in the wet, its like a new car
