the patient is a 1.7 ie, h reg, the 8v one unfortunately not the 16!
i got the car and it wasnt performing very well, not like my old alfa so did the usual, generally serviced it, i used some wynns carb cleaner, sprayed it into the air meter and also directly into the throttle body, it kicked out a load of smoke from the exhaust and the engine started running loads better and making more power.
which was very good! the alfa responsiveness i remembered from my last one, a 15.ti.
anywayi dont know if its related to the carb cleaner, i cant imagine why it should be but unfortunately the car now idles at 2000 rpm. i don't know why so anyone got any ideas? it goes well over 2000rpm tho, i've had 120 out of it ( down a private rd of course)!
any ideas much appreciated thanks. _________________ Alfa 33 1.7 injection (red of course!)

ok i found the idle adjust speed screw, turned it out, i got the idle to drop to 1000 now, which is better! but not perfect but the screw's now completely fell apart, it was soft as grease so i'll have to be happy with 1000 i suppose _________________ Alfa 33 1.7 injection (red of course!)

it doesnt jump out at you until you know where it is if you know what i mean! anyway u know where the throttle cable actually pulls the butterfly open, where the inlet manifold is? well the spring that closes the butterfly has a screw right in front of it and that adjusts the idle.
hope that's of some help _________________ Alfa 33 1.7 injection (red of course!)

ok ...here is the picture. Hope it works. The screw it's in the red circle. Be very gentle when you adjust it.
Good luck

try to loosen the screw with the engine not running, at a point you'll hear a very soft click, that's the TPS falling back in it's idle position and you'll notice the car 'll fall back in it's RPM. But you really have to be with your ear on the throttle body almost.

hi
as someone mentioned tps i have a qustion - how can i get it in correct posotion? i know it should be in "idle" position when throttle is closed, but i wonder how long? should just touching the throttle cable wheel (hope you know what i mean) cause "click" and switch to half-open position or maybe it should be in idle posotion some longer?
i'm asking as in my 1.4ie (bosch) i'm unable to get engine running at eg. 1700 rpm. it idles at ca. 950 i think, but when i just touch the accelerator it
revs up to 2000. this causes cangoroo-like behaviour when driving in traffic. above that speed everything is ok - so i'm just keeping it above 3000 all the time
any suggestions?
greetings

are u sure that your accelerator cable isn't stuck ? or maybe the throtlle plate (i'm not sure this is the correct word) is obstructed by something. Try cleaning the throtlle plate with WD40 or similar stuff.
good luck |

accelerator cable is ok. engine behaves the same way when i open (meaning "touch" up to the moment when i can hear tps click) the throttle
by hand. as i said - just after the tps click engine revs up
and starts hanging around this speed.
it looks like the cpu switches "too hard" from idle to half open mode.
and it's why i've asked this question - maybe i should unscrew a bit idle throttle posotion screw (idle speed drops) and raise it by something else?
greetings

Hi,
Zorba128: My Alfa is also a Bosch 1.4IE and the same happens with the cable and the rpms.
It is normal to behave like that. Although it is not tragic!. Just shift to the next gear when in traffic and no problem! you dont then have to be above 3000rpms since it is also the point where fuel consumption becomes larger and larger.
Have a happy Alfa driving.

i don't think it's normal as i remember after i bought the car it was lots
better. for me it's not a problem, but there's problem if i'd like to ask
someone else to drive it - the only person besides me that can do it
is my father
as for fuel consumption - i think it's not worth consideration. usually
when speeding up i rev up to 6krpm, constant speed at 3-4 krpm.
engine speed below 3krpm are used almost only when engine is cold
and fuel consumtion - ca 7 l/100km, sometimes bit more, sometimes
bit less, once 5,5 . and i've noticed no visible connection between
driving style and fuel consimption - so i use every possibility to
listen to the engine near the red line
greetings
