I've been advised to clean this out!

Does anyone know where it is on 1.7IE 8v engine?!?!?

Thanks!

Rob

when you remove the oil filler cap and look down the filling pipe you'll see a screw which you can loosen with a flat screwdriver. You'll see that there's a tube going to the rubber elbow between AFM and the filler neck. That's how it ventilates your carter. Just screw it off and let it clean itself in a scale of fuel for a night and it'll be fine. can help when your car is a bit rough running.

Nope, I'm "Bob X"

Therefore, to send a kiss I'd put "Bob x x" See?

OMG!!!! Surprised

Took that oil filler cap housing thingy off..... SLUDGEY!!!! More poop in there than in the park!!! LOL!

Cleaned the gauze, like you said. But there is endless sludge in the filler pipe!!! What to do now!? Can it be cleaned right through if I take the oil sump off and kinda chimney sweep it?!?!!?

two reasons for the sludge forming in the filler neck: one is driving too much short distances so the water and oil don't get on temperature, like that water and fuel don't evapourate totally out of your oil till all is cleansed and vented. So a mixture of fuel fumes, condens water and oil stick into the filler pipe and start to form sludge. The same white slime thats found in the coolant reservoir when oil and water have mixed cause of a broken headgasket, and that's the second reason what causes that sludge in the filler neck. So do a bit of highway, long trips and roads so that everything gets nice'n hot and it'll help allot. Or check compression.....

Hmmm... I do 90 miles in her each day down the Motorway (freeway, autoroute etc..)

And compression is good!

I fancy the oil wasn't changed for 50,000miles before I had it, could this be the cause?!

Ta,

Rob

Hi,

Did you meant 5000 miles? 50000 miles with the same oil and good compresion are two incompatible things...

Dunno! Shocked

When I first got the car I changed the oil, and nothing but BLACK TAR like stuff came out!

Was like the oil had never been changed!!! LOL!

I said 50k in jest, but thought it must have been a very long time.

ah, OK, if black tar came out suppose indeed the oil was in there too long, together with some moist and you have an ideal mayonnaise preperation. Just clean out the breather (probably sludge was forming because the fumes couldn't get away) and as you do long trips the sludge should stay away for good.

Regards!

Yep, like you said.... when I bought the car, it had more Mayo than McDonalds! But a few long trips sorted that out.
