Hello everyone, this is by far the best auto forum on the net 
I have decided to buy a 33 series I or II, and need some (or rather lots of) advice...
What are the most common mechanical faults of the car ? Which of them are expensive to repair ?
What (33-specific) things should I check, before buying the car ?
What things should I check/replace, right after buying the car ? (e.g. cambelts ?)

for me the most important thing is rust.
check the doors, in the boot...
then check oil colour and oil tap..
history will help u as well (check for last cambelt, clutch, suspension).
if u are careful and patient u ll find a good one out there.. |

Hi. check for rust also around the tailights, rear wheel arches and sills and the front strut mounting area. The series 2 should be better than the 1. Go for a cloverleaf or QV as they have a higher spec of fittings such as seats etc. Second gear synchro is the bane of the Alfas and if it is really bad then the price should reflect this as a rebuild is going to cost. The strut bearings are another source of trouble and will generally show up as heavy steering and a tendency to pull to one side after turning a corner.
Cambelts should of course be changed asap unless there is proof of their recent change. Arough check of shocks can be done in the usual way.
