Hi all,
I am rebuilding a alfa 33 gearbox for a 1.7 16V. I have two defective ones in my workshop, but they seem to be different. I know there are two different versions, one for the lighter cars and one for the 1.5 and 1.7 I believe.
The main difference I can tell is that the gearwheels look different. One has smaller teeth than the other one. Also the triangle shaped part on which the slider hub sits when in neutral, are different in shape.
Can anybody tell me what knid of gearboxes I have. Do I have two different sizes, for different engine sizes, or do I have two gearboxes for the same engine size but one is newer than the other.
I would like to know how I can identify different makes and different types.
Thanks

Hi
Sounds like you have 2 different ages of gearbox. As far as I know the only real difference between the 1.3 gearbox and the 1.5/1.7/16V series 3 gearbox is the diff ratio.
All the best

Does it have studs sticking out above the output flanges? If it does, it's an AlfaSud gearbox, as that is where the brake calipers go.
If on the right hand side, viewed from the front, at about the 3'o'clock position, there is a small cut out, then this is a series 3 gearbox, as that cutout is there for the crank position sensor
