|
|
Hi there,
Just wanted to share this with you.
I have always thought it added a sense of mystery whenever I saw a Alfa 33 or another old Alfa driven by a girl. I remember a very pretty French girl who drove a left hand drive 33 when I was living in England, and I'd often see her at the petrol station. I often parked my Alfa Sprint which I had at the time nearby when filling up with the hope of striking up a conversation with this French girl, but alas I was young and still shy! But somehow it would have not been the same if she was driving an old clapped out Ford Escort instead! What do you think? Not that the 33 is particulary sexy, just that interesting people tend to drive them! |

Well they do have a certain cachet. Quite a number of the smart young ladies working in the city centre of our largest metropolis here in NZ still seem to drive them and I've had mine admired by the likes of very polished air stewardesses who are driving cars worth 10 times as much.

Hi,
Well in my country I have seen quite a few girls at the age of 20-25 driving Alfa 147s (which has been the trend in the last years) and very few Alfa 145s.
Guess what they seem to be in a moderate to good financial status and consequently they have the appropriate "style" and tendency to show off
In addition when another Alfa approaches each young lady they always turn to seen the person inside.
I recall that when our Alfa was brand new (back at 1991) and I was 13 years old, many kids and teenagers used to cheer and applaud when we were passing from quiet roads where they were playing with each other. This was happening most of the times when my mother was driving the car. The most common phrases were: "Hey hold the ball for the Alfa Romeo to pass" or "Hey watch out the lady with the red Alfa Romeo".
However most of the other young ladies that don't own an Alfa, they are owners of the standard Peugeot 206 or even the hard cover one; absolutely without personality or character.

I thought the 33 was a girls' car
Mens' cars are supposed to have heavy, non-assisted steering, clutches like a vintage tractor, no synchromesh, a ride like a cart, and no roof, - aren't they? _________________ Dick Flower, Nr. Well, worn synchromesh on first and second gear and clutches that leak half the time are well known problems on 33's! Our lowered 33 ride like a cart on cobbled roads too |

My lass' favorite car was and still is the 20-25mpg 33(in it's final incarnation it was a silver Mk2 1.5ti(cheap tax) with a black 1.7 veloce highly tuned engine, interior, brakes etc and black bonnet wings and bumpers) she loved it but upon discovering 45-50mpg diesel she fell out of love. Different priorites I guess. After the boot was restructured by a micra it was scrapped previously she would have and did demand that the engine and running gear found a new chassis grrrrrrrrrr BLOODY DIESEL!!!!
It is still the benchmark that she judges other car against for handling. She still reminisses about the 33 and loved driving it, hammering the Kittens off it. Mind anyone who drove it hammered it, you couldn't avoid it. Even me old man used to flog it even though he denied it. A friend said to me
'boy you were going some yestreday when you overtook me'
'err no me old man had borrowed it yesterday his car was being MOT'd' |
