Hi,
I have noticed some people on this discussion are using 16v pistons in their 8v motor. What was the reason for this, simply CR ? You could end up with 6 fly cuts per piston as the 16v comes with fly cuts, correct? Please fill me in
Regards,

Hi
You will get a 1600cc engine with 16v pistons. And 10.8 cr + no modifications to camtiming.
Other way around, the skimming of block to increase cr will get the camtiming off. Have to get adjustable camwheels to cure it.
So with 16v pistons is the easiest way, you get all benefits with minimum trouble. When You increase inlet manifold& carbs to 40mm, you will get some +20hp more. Of course other minor mods have to be made for it too, like cleaning of inlet ports, valves, balancing the moving parts in engine etc.
In my opinion the best of it is the cr, engine starts running very smoothly and revs alot easier.
just my 2c

Hi Timo,
Thanks for the explanation. My block has previously been skimmed to 10.5 CR with the 87mm pistons from the 8v. I also have vernier cam wheels. My new cam will require flycuts to be added to the piston tops as well, so if I was to use the 16v pistons they would have 6 fly cuts in each piston!
I will have to measure everything properly before putting it back together again so no other advantages of the 16v pistons, just the shape?

Hi
The 16v pistons are usually used for an "easy way" to get more cr, without skimming and verniers. If You already have the block skimmed for 8v pistons, no reason to use 16v piston. It could only lead to problems with cr and valves, or hard work to modify the piston crowns.
You want more cr?

No I was just interested if the pistons have any other advantages over the 8v pistons as we will need to get new ones anyway. But if not I will go ahead as before.
Thanks!
