Hey.... I've struck a problem in my el cheapo S1 33 QV.

It overheats. I have replaced the thermostat, checked the fan, check fan switch, flushed the system, bled the system... still she overheats!!!

Now the radiator, is staying stone cold in the middle, but is very hot at each end tank... when I compared this to my Sud, the whole radiator is warm on the Sud yet it runs at a far cooler temp. Does this indicate a crook/blocked radiator?

Also, I have the 2 piece thermostat housing, how do I completely remove the thermostat from the housing.... advice appreciated please!

Cheers,

Richard

Hi,

Yes, this is a clue that the radiator is clogged - It would be a good idea to remove it and flush it with a garden hose under pressure. There should be quite a few debris inside it.

Regards,

Take the radiator to a radiator place and have them flush it out thoroughly. A garden hose won't do the job. The radiator place will remove one of the "heads" to flush it. I had this done because mine was overheating to the extent that the red warning light came on - the cleaning fixed that problem at a cost of about AUS $40.

recently i cleaned out a rad by flushing it with a high presure washer for about 20mins. then i lay teh rad on its front and filled it with rad cleaner. i used warm water to top of the rest so that the cleaner would fill the rad.

while the water was still hot we pluged the in and out holes with plastic and shook the rad as much as we could to free up the gunk inside. then we emptied the whole lot and washed it out with the presure washer again. a lot of rusty water came out!
them we filled the rad up again with more cleaner and left it over night. washed out again in the morning and have not had a problem since.

should cost you about £8 for the rad cleaner and about an hour in the garden washing it out.

good luck.

Why not just have it done properly rather than all the stuffing around! Also, 8 pounds is at least AUS $ 20, plus the garden gnome labour and it costs you about the same as having it done by a specialist and HAVING THE JOB LAST FOR A WHILE LONGER!

meh, there are no rad specialist anywhere near me. just seemed easier to do this while we had the rad off for other things.

i spose if there is a local radiator specialist near you and you have a spare $40 then go for it.
