Having got my lovely 1400 16V engine back from the builder I am now going to convert the fuel system on the car from carbs to fuel injection Shocked Laughing .
Can anyone please advise what bore the fuel pipe is for the standard 16V on both the feed from the tank and the return pipe.
Also does anyone know what bore the outlet is on the fuel tank and the fuel pump. I have bought a new 16V fuel pump but it is only 5mm bore which I thought seemed small.
Any comments advice Rolling Eyes

Hi all,
I have measured my fuel rail pipes and the T's are approx 6mm bore. Looking at it though I am a bit confused. On the front pipe (One that goes behind the alternator) there is just a T piece which I presume is the infeed from the pump / tank. On the back pipe is the fuel pressure regulator. On the bottom of this regulator is a 6mm bore pipe and on the top is a 3mm ? Shocked bore pipe. Can someone please advise of what pipe goes where?
Is the 6mm pipe the tank return or vice a versa Confused ? HELP. If so what and where does the 3mm pipe do and go.

Hi

Remember the fuel pressure regulator has a vacuum pipe goes to the inlet manifold (its job it to maintain fuel pressure at a fixed amount over the air pressure in the manifold).

All the best

Pipe from fuel tank goes into fuel pulsation damper (the hat with two pipes) and out of the damper into the fuel rail.

OUT of the fuel rail it goes into BOTH SIDES of the fuel pressure regulator, and out the BOTTOM back to the fuel tank. On the TOP of the fuel pressure regulator, like Keith said, is a small bore tube which goes into the inlet manifold. As the suction decreases, i.e. as you open the throttle, this has the effect of increasing the pressure in the fuel rail.

Fuel pressure regulator at the top and pulsation damper at the bottom :

The pipe marked in red on an 8v goes into the intake manifold. On 16v this goes into the intake plenum :

Which clearer shown is this thing I've sat on top the manifold :

Hope that makes sense!

Bob

Gentlemen you would go straight too the top of my Xmas card list if I had one.

A "fuel pulsation damper" - have you got a side view picture of it as I dont think I have one. From your description it goes before the T piece at the front of the engine?

Any ideas what happens if you run without it?

I have got an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so I have got the standard one spare if anyone is in need.

Thanks for advice and help

Yes... if you follow the fuel injection rail, the pipe which comes out of the T piece goes into the fuel pulsation damper. This is the best picture I have of it at the moment :

I'm not sure about the effect of running the injection system without this.

The pulsation damper just takes out the uneven fuel delivery from the pump and provides a fuel delivery with even pressure. I don't think it would do any harm not having it but i don't think the engine would run very even.

It lives Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

132bhp at the flywheel at 6900rpm Twisted Evil
98bhp at the wheels
100lbs / ft torque between 5500 and 7500rpm

Dave at Mech-repairs thinks cams are a bit wild for a 1400 suggested that 270 deg cams and some head work will produce same or more power at lower rpm and increase torque throughout. Maybe this winter Rolling Eyes ?

Pleased with result Cool

Thanks to everybody who has helped and supported with this project

Anyone got any thoughts on this problem.
On tickover rev counter works fine.
If you rev engine needle works fine up to about 2500 - 3000rpm.
Once you get past this, rev counter needle goes back down hard onto the stop Confused .
Once the revs drop again then needle starts registering again.

If you have had it did you manage to solve it? Rolling Eyes

Hi

My guess would be some electrical interference somewhere.

All the best
